We’ve fixed our lawnmower and its attached small engine by the simple expedient of buying a cheap (€204 delivered and no, that’s not €204 plus several layers of tax, it’s €204 ) new one. New on left, old on right.

Yes, it started first pull despite being made three years ago.

Fancy OHV engine. We’ve not had one of those before.

The mower has rather a complicated background. It’s branded as McCulloch, an American maker who began in Milwaukee which coincidentally is where Briggs and Stratton started. Since then McCulloch have moved through Black & D ecker to Husqvarna so we have this label:

1.6kW is not a lot of kW b ut it works well enough.

Yes, Husqvarna are based in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which is near Jönköping and the best of luck trying to pronounce that (it’s no thing like you expect).

The town changed its spelling, the company did not. I’d be surprised if t he mower was actually made there but who knows? No , Husqvarna do not make Husq varna bikes. Business is complicated. AB Volvo don’t make Volvo cars. R enault do not make R enault trucks. AB Volvo do.

H onda lawn mowers are some of the best for home owners if you can afford them. T he last one I bought was $350 USD, it’s 8 years old and the only thing I’ve done is change the oil and clean the underside.

My mom has a Honda lawn mower that she bought new in 1990 IIRC. It’s been rebuilt once! It still runs great.

So they say, but in my experience a lawn mower is going to rust through or lose various bits (wheels usually) before the engine expires.

Our previous one rusted through and cracked so a friend transferred the engine to a cast aluminium body which outlasted the engine in the end.

The drive tires on my Honda are getting pretty bald. I need to cut new groves into them.

Yes, after wasting hours cannibalising bits for the old one! Transferred plug, tank, carb and ignition system to no avail.

Somewhat related: Volvo Trucks also owns the trademark to REO (like Speedwagon) due to some acquisitions over the years .

Nice work! I just fixed my mower too! I spent a week diagnosing only to find out the gas was bad...However, through this I learned that people throw out lawn mowers over nothing.

My landscaper buddy put me on to a Honda mower that was in somebodies dumpster but looked nice enough. I got my Toro running, picked up the dumpster Honda, put a new plug in it and hit it with some carb cleaner...fired right up. Sold it for a hundo the next day!
